In my classroom with Mr. Reise there are often times several disruptions during class time. Whether it be someone coming into the classroom to ask questions, students off task, or someone claiming to not know whats going on. However, unlike several other classrooms I have observed, these disruptions are easily solved and the class rolls on. It seems to be because of Mr. Reise's mastery of classroom management. He quickly answers questions without stopping his train of thought. If a student comes into the class, it is usually during a lull in the teaching portion so he can easily solve the students problems. There are a few students in his general earth science class that i can tell will definitely be a problem. These students clearly do not care about what they are being taught and do not put much effort into their classwork. I don't see my teacher putting much effort into engaging these students and instead puts more effort into those that show initiative. He does however quickly quell any nonsense, with a glare and a curt "stop fooling around". In my classroom I will have high behavioral standards, the students will be mandated to sign a behavioral contract and also a lab safety contract in order to cover my bases should I have to discipline students and they attempt to fight back. As I stated in my teaching philosophy, I will teach these students as though they were adults because that is how they will be treated in college and I want them to be prepared.

(2/2) Interesting account. Your reflections mention high "behavioral" expectations. What about expectations for yourself in terms of engaging the students that seem not "care?" High school students are not adults. You can pretend they are if you wish as long as you know that it is a teaching strategy that may not be appropriate for all students in all classes.
